I'd never seen people waiting in tents in the rain before, but apparently the launch of a new gaming console will do that to people. Unfortunately, several sources are saying that there are all sorts of unfavorable things happening. The PS3 looks crappy on older HD TVs that "don’t support 1080p or 720p inputs", several retailers cancelled getting the 20 gig PS3s and didn't have the 40 gig versions to cover the loss. And so far the selection of launch titles is less than stellar, save one or two games.
But, I have yet to give up hope. I've been a supporter of the Playstation franchise since really getting into gaming back in high school. I love my PS2 and the wide array of games it offers. The X-box could have it's super awesome graphics and technology; the PS2 offered more than just shooters and sports. I have faith that maybe in a year, the bugs and patches in the PS3 will be worked out, there'll be some new amazing games to play, and hopefully there'll be a price drop. But for now, I'll just go get the Wii. Hell, I'm thinking of defecting and getting a 360 too. There finally seems to be an interesting array of games coming along.
It's too bad that I'm not more technologically saavy like other gaming critics are. :) Oh well. Check the Penny Arcade link for a more intelligent view on things.
